Odyssey is back from Germany!! The co-hosts will talk about their experiences in Germany,
exploring a new country, traveling outside of the country for the first time, performing abroad,
and everything that ensued! The hosts can go in chronological order discussing each day of the
tour and share some anecdotes from our travels. The tour was jam-packed with a lot of amazing
events, moments, and memories, so sharing that with the audience will give the co-hosts the
opportunity to reminisce and give our audience some insight into what an Odyssey tour is like!
It's a lot. We have today.
SPEAKER_04One and a two, a three and a four. A five out of six. Nice, nice. Scary. That was so polite too. Okay. Well, hi everyone. Welcome to Odyssey Unscripted. I am Ian. I am your lovely host for today. And alongside me are my lovely co-hosts.
SPEAKER_02Natalie and Athena.
SPEAKER_04Yay! Guys, we're back. We're back. We're so back. We're so back. It feels really nice to be back in the stew. I missed it a lot. It was really fun to film our podcast on tour, though. That was it was a lot of fun. Um, if you saw, which you should have, we did an episode with um Daryl and Darby, and that one was so, so sweet. I was sitting in there with Ali and Carson when they filmed it, and seeing them like connect was just so adorable. Like it literally is like Darby is Daryl's daughter. Oh, absolutely. Say that three times fast. Darby is Daryl's daughter.
SPEAKER_03Oh, that was the ASMR. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02That's like an incantation. Like you're saying.
SPEAKER_03Sorry.
SPEAKER_04Um and we also, Athena and I did an episode with Veronica, which was so nice to have her back on the pod again. She is just, she is just such a little ball of light. Like I just adore her so much. Um so yeah, and that kind of segues us into what our topic is today. We're gonna be talking about our tour of Germany. Um but first, how are we doing? How are things going, everyone? Are we doing good? How are we feeling?
SPEAKER_00Okay, I'm great. Great.
SPEAKER_04That's wonderful. No, yeah, it's definitely getting to a point in the year. Adjusting. We got back from Germany on Sunday, like night-ish. I think we landed at like 7.30 p.m. after being on a plane for 10 and a half hours. That was definitely a lot. Um, but we touched down in Salt Lake at like 7:30, and we had to load up the van and all of our costumes and stuff like that. Um, and then we were very fortunate to have Monday and Tuesday off, which was really nice. It was definitely a good like reset period for me personally. Yeah. And then uh we we've been in the studio this past week, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. We had to start at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, and it was especially in comparison to our regular 8 a.m. schedule that we have. That was really wonderful. Um and we were starting to rework all of the stairs into Romeo and Juliet, which is like the traditional set pieces that we have. Um, which it's definitely a bit of a challenge, I will say. They are really scary, they're so tall.
SPEAKER_02What makes me laugh is like at the beginning when we were staging Fame V was like, does anyone have a fear of heights? And then like you two, the highest up on the stairs. We're like, um, we're like, and then y'all are like y'all are up there so much. No, yeah. I'm like, okay, awesome. No, those things and I don't have a fear of heights, like literally at all. Like, if anything, I love being in the air. We know this.
SPEAKER_04As we know.
SPEAKER_02But like, I liter Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Ascend, mama.
SPEAKER_02Even I get a little scared on those things because they don't they don't like lock like our scaffolding do. I mean, they're like they're sturdy if your weight's in the right place. You can walk, you can take the smallest of it and be like, No, literally. Like you're done. I almost like literally toppled backwards off of it the other day. We were doing the beginning of fame, and me and Sierra go like this, and I went.
SPEAKER_04Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_00So that was fun. So good learning where my weight needs to be. No, yeah. Me and Lily, like, obviously, all of all six of us who are on the stairs at the beginning all had to re-chore graph what we were doing for the top of it. But me and Lily were like, okay, we're only gonna stand up one time. That's when we're walking down. So you truly started.
SPEAKER_04And you want to know what happened to me today? What? I ran over my foot.
SPEAKER_02I know. It hurt so with the wheel.
SPEAKER_04It's because all of the other men that were with me just decided to push the stairs into the corner. So I had to catch them. Well, yes, but then it just kind of flew, so I had to stop it before I could go to my spot for fame, and then that's when it happened. It rolled right over me.
SPEAKER_02Like happened.
SPEAKER_04You better not have. I hope so.
SPEAKER_02Wait, like the wheel ran over your phone.
SPEAKER_04No, it was just like the metal. I was also late. I know. You were there with me, I know. There was the metal bar that's in between the two. It's like just low enough to the ground that like a foot shouldn't fit underneath it, but like it could if it really tried. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So whatever.
SPEAKER_04You know what I mean. You know what I mean.
SPEAKER_02It's like how I describe cockroaches. Like it shouldn't go there, but it will. No, but it will.
SPEAKER_04It will find a way. It's true. Um, but, anyways, so that's what we've been up to this week. And then uh we have the weekend off, thankfully. And then we'll go into our spacing rehearsal on Monday. We'll do a dress rehearsal on Monday night, and then our shows start on Tuesday, which is really, really, really crazy, but also really exciting. Yeah. I feel like I'm not as nervous going into it because like we've had all the experiences of Germany so far, and we've been doing Romeo and Juliet for almost a year now. Yeah. So like I'm feeling pretty okay about it, but it definitely is still gonna be a matter of reacclimating myself once we get to Salt Lake because we haven't been there in a little while. Right. Um, but I'm excited. I think it's gonna be a lot of fun. We're doing a potluck on Monday.
SPEAKER_02Oh my gosh, yes, potluck luck.
SPEAKER_04We were talking about what we should bring, and it really was not going very well. I we were thinking Rice Krispy treats.
SPEAKER_02I threw out like crumble cookies, but then I was like, that would like not suffice. Like we would have to cut them in a quarter. No, like we're gonna be around. We said only you only get one quarter and he's frowning behind the camera. But me and that at the same time we both went Carson. Carson were talking to you. So we decided against the crumble cookie idea. We want Carson to be able to have as much as he wants.
SPEAKER_04It's true, it's true. Well, and there'll be meatballs and they'll be, you know, I'm really excited. We're really excited about it, you can't tell. Uh, but anyways, so going into Germany, we when did we leave? We left on the 17th, St. Patrick's Day. I did not get to drink a beer in the airport. It was a long, it was a rough day. It was a really long and rough day.
SPEAKER_02How long did our flight get delayed?
SPEAKER_04Like two and a half hours, I think.
SPEAKER_02We got to the airport at 4 a.m. when our flight was scheduled to board at like 7 45 or something like that. And then we didn't actually board until like 9.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Like it w it was rough. We had a lot of fun in that airport though. It was like it was so like I felt like the camaraderie was just so prevalent in the air. We were on our way to Germany and we were all together as a company, we were in our comfy clothes, all our suitcases. Like it it low key felt like we were going on like a school trip, which was like, I think what made it like so fun. I actually, when we were in Germany, I had someone ask me if we were on a school trip like that. And I was like, well, kinda.
SPEAKER_03Kind of like honestly, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Kind of consider it that. Um, but yeah, we uh got to the airport really early and our flight got delayed big time, which and it wasn't even because of like weather or anything like that. It was because we didn't have a captain.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, a pilot.
SPEAKER_04Which was really confusing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they were like, we don't know where he is. So they have to get a new one.
SPEAKER_00Okay. So I remember walking down the terminal to the plane, and I'm walking right by our pilot, and I'm like, oh, you're you're fine. Okay. No, you go first. It's okay.
SPEAKER_04I know, like I I guess they like get to go on the same way we do. I never really thought about that. It's so interesting. I mean, that's what I was thinking. Like, the plane opens up and they go inside. Their dressing room's back there and their green room. Yes, that's where they have their crumble. Full circle.
SPEAKER_02Of course.
SPEAKER_04Um, but yeah, so we were able to finally get on our plane, and that first flight that we had was from Salt Lake City to uh JFK in New York. And that was like, what, like four and a half hours-ish?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um which I've done that flight before. That's like usually pretty doable. And then we had to take a flight from JFK to Amsterdam, which that was the long one. That was like, yeah, like six and a half, seven hours. I can't. That time I didn't mean it. That time I didn't mean I promised. Control yourself. I'm like the clock.
SPEAKER_02It's going fast again. Sorry.
SPEAKER_04I'm like that wolf that like it's like ripping itself out of its clothes. Like when I hear 6'7, like that's what happens to me.
SPEAKER_02You were so against it in the beginning, too. I'm the only one that says.
SPEAKER_04Listen, when you get to like this age, like, guys, I'm 24. I turned 20. Oh, things. In Germany, by the way. Yes, I turned 24 in Germany. Well, we'll get there. We'll get there. Yeah. Um, but anyways, moving past all of that, we can like we can cut that too. Like, it's getting to a point. No, leave it in. It's funny. The viewers like it. Um and by viewers I mean Ireland. Shout out. I know you're watching, girl. Um, so that was like about seven hours on the plane, um, which also felt pretty doable. I think like the excitement of getting on the plane and going to Germany was very prevalent still. Um, and then we took an hour, not even, flight from Amsterdam to Hamburg, and that's where we were finally able to touch down, grab all of our things, and head to our little hotel. And that hotel was really cute. It was really cute. It was really cute. I love that.
SPEAKER_02It was so pretty on the outside, like with the fountain. And it felt really like personal because we were the literal only people in there. Yeah, yeah. And there was the cutest little like um Italian restaurant, like in the like outside of the hotel, but like in the same plaza. And like the waitress was so cute, like it was a little family-owned business. Like, she was so sweet, and the food so good.
SPEAKER_00We ate there every single night. Because one, we were out in the middle of nowhere, but it was gorgeous because it was just land everywhere. Yeah, but then all we had to eat was that little uh Italian place, and I was like, oh, this is awesome.
SPEAKER_04I got some pasta, I got a barbecue chicken pizza. Wow. Wow.
SPEAKER_00You get viewers might not know this. I am gluten-free. I cannot eat gluten in the States, which, if you don't know what that is, it is bread and wheat.
unknownSo yeah.
SPEAKER_00A lot of people don't know. True? It's silly. It's true, it's true, it's true. But I got to eat my first real pizza in Germany like in 10 years or something. I was like, oh, it didn't mess you up. And it messed me up. I never got sick. And so that was awesome. That's beautiful. Time weeks of freedom. And it was beautiful.
SPEAKER_04Uh-huh. I was so full the whole time. And like Natalie said, we were like low-key in the middle of nowhere, but it was really nice because it felt really secluded. Like it didn't well, there were times definitely where I felt like we were disrupting the peace just a little bit. But like at the same time, it was still like I was still able to honor and pay homage in the way that I needed to while we were there. It like felt nice to have a change of pace like that because there are ways that like where we live now can feel kind of rural in a sense, but at the same time, like the city is still very prevalent. So being like in an area like that where you like hardly have reception is like it was really nice to almost like step away for a second. We didn't really do a whole lot while we were there either. We just kind of like had the chance to like sit and hang out. We got to swim. Oh my god, we got to swim.
SPEAKER_02Please like put the picture of Ramsey's and Carson. Like, I post that like on my Instagram job.
SPEAKER_04I have you have to do it, but like it's so so funny. Ramsey's and Carson did a lift at the pool, and it was really, really beautiful. It is such a cinematic fun.
SPEAKER_02There's a lifting session happening for like literally 20 minutes. It was so much fun. It was really beautiful.
SPEAKER_04They had a really nice, so it was really odd too, like the way that it had was set up. I mean, it isn't like uncommon for this to happen, but it's not like very prevalent, especially here. But there were two different hotels, and they were owned by the same people, so we had to go pick up our keys from the other hotel for the hotel that we were staying at, like a little bit down the road. Which that was definitely that threw a bit of a wrench in our plans because we were all like so tired. We had just eaten McDonald's and it was rough, it was really rough. But we were able to get into our rooms and we took a shower and whatever, and you know, other than that, it was it was a pretty cute little trip.
SPEAKER_02And then me, Lily, Carson, and Emily got Wi-Fi for the entire company because we walked 20 minutes to the other hotel to go find the Wi-Fi. And then I don't Who got the Wi-Fi? Carson got the walk. We did the walk, but Carson was the brave soldier to go up to the German hotel attention and say, What's the Wi-Fi password? And so he wrote it down, and it was literally just like the name of the hotel and then like an exclamation point or something. It was really stupid. That's wonderful. But and then somehow it like got passed around. We were making jokes about like charging people one euro for the Wi-Fi password. And then like it somehow got passed around, and then Peter texts in the group chat, Wi-Fi is this. Like, no, you don't get our credit. You didn't want to be a good one. You didn't find it yourself. So I saw a beef of Peter.
SPEAKER_04Uh-oh. Anyway, receive. Well, um, after the Wi-Fi debacle, apparently, we um set sail on our bus. That day we had a pretty long drive, didn't we? I think we had like a three, four-hour drive. Uh Ulrich. No. Uh Ulrich. Urich. Ul Ulrich. I know a girl with that last name. Ulrich.
SPEAKER_02What is it? A-U-R-I-C-A.
SPEAKER_04A-U-L. I don't think there's an L I'm. There's no L. That was A Alkin. Alkin.
SPEAKER_00Alkin was the next one. So we stayed in um Aurich, the first place. And then we performed at Wins Thorst High School.
SPEAKER_04Oh.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, there you go. And that theater was four hours away. Yeah. Yes. That theater was really nice. It was really, really cute.
SPEAKER_02There was a good amount of space too.
SPEAKER_04We did Chicago there, right? Yeah. Yeah. It was so, oh my gosh. But y'all. I took a sprint while we were there. Because so the way that the dressing rooms were set up is like we entered downstairs and there was like this long hallway of just like consecutive dressing rooms. And then you had to go up two flights of stairs so you could get to where the stage was, and there wasn't a whole lot of backstage space. So a lot of our quick change that needed to happen for Chicago, which there are many, needed to happen either somewhere where you could find the space on the sides of the stage, or you just had to go down to your dressing room. Well, I thought that I had everything I needed upstairs, and I did not. I did not have my hat for gambling hall, which is at the very end of the show, right after we get done doing cell block, which all of the guys are in, and almost all of the guys are in gambling hall as well. I didn't have my hat and it was in the dressing room, and of course I chose the dressing room furthest away from the theater, all the way in the back of the hallway. So I literally I got off stage for cell block, I was getting changed, and I realized I didn't have my hat, and I just darted. I had to go all the way from the stage left to stage right, use the crossover, sprint down the stairs, go around this really tight corner, passing by everyone. Sorry, sorry, sorry, excuse me, sorry, sorry, sorry. I'm sprinting, I grab my hat, I go, I run back upstairs, and I have an eight count before I have to front Ariel onto the stage for gambling.
SPEAKER_00He's the first one on stage, by the way, in gambling.
SPEAKER_04I like I could not believe well, and then the kicker of it all though, like I couldn't have it perfectly, was I still had my gum in from cell block. So the entire time, the entire time I'm like, like instinctively, like without realizing that I'm like absolutely mouthing this double bubble. Like it was, it was horrendous. I all stage it, I was like, oh, no, like literally. Because that's like Daryl got so mad at us when some of us didn't have our hats when we were doing it in the studio that I was like, God for me, did I go out without a hat? Like, I will never hear the end.
SPEAKER_00Especially night one.
SPEAKER_04But I mean, you know, I'm very impressed. I put my long legs to good use, and thankfully I was able to go by unscathed.
SPEAKER_02But and I I got I got astray. I was like leaving Snowblock, and you were like on the other side of the wing that I was on, and I just hear, sorry, sorry, sorry, and then an arm fly into the door, and then I went, it was serious. I was like behind you, like once you were sprinting, and I was just watching you like wow. Like just bounding through the window.
SPEAKER_04No, like literally. Well, what was even scarier is that I was in jazz shoes and it was like all like Linolian floor. I was terrified. There are many times. I like I think I literally hopped off the stairs and there was still like at least six left. And I just like left and like hoped that I was gonna find the floor. Like it was like actually, I don't know what it's like when you hulk out and like something superhuman happens to you in like a moment of crisis. Like, that's what happened to me. It was insane.
SPEAKER_00Well, but my side of the story, my view of it, I was getting ready for gambling. And I had like a little more time, so I was like chilling. But I like walk up to uh Veronica, like you zoom past, and she was like, Did he forget his hat? And I was like, Yeah, probably. And then she was like, Do you wanna bet if he makes it or not? Yeah. So we're like, okay. Did you bet against me? No, of course not. I said, he's gonna make it. And she's like, Yeah, I think he's too. Oh, okay. It was just like a funny little joke. She was like, You think he's gonna make it?
SPEAKER_04I was gonna say, I sure did.
SPEAKER_00And he did.
SPEAKER_04Exactly.
SPEAKER_00With those 10 foot legs. No, like literally. I don't hope so.
SPEAKER_04It was really well, thank you for believing in me. I appreciate it. Um, but other than that, I think the show went pretty well. I don't think anything else really happened. It was just a matter of us like finding our legs because it was our first theater and everything like that. But it was that theater was really, really nice. I got some good pictures on that stage. Yeah. And we just found out, not that long ago, if you recall, that um there it was a high school.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And we did not know that. And Athena was very uh adamant about that. It was a high school.
SPEAKER_02Well, because we got there and there was like a class happening in the courtyard, and there was a weird, there was a weird like kerfuffle with our bus trying to get in there, and there was a man on the bike being like talking to the bus drivers, and it looked like a really heated conversation, but also like German people, like they're just like aggressive when they speak.
SPEAKER_03It's true.
SPEAKER_02They could have just they could have literally been saying, How are you? Are you having a nice day? What's this bus you're driving? You get me in her no, like literally. I was like, oh my god, we can't perform like that. I don't know what that I don't know what that was.
SPEAKER_04I mean, it's a valid question. Why do you have 29 people in this bus right now? Why do you have so many costumes in this fan you got?
unknownOh goodness.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, on the flight to Amsterdam when the pilot like called us out because we had to check so many bags. You didn't? Oh my god, we had to check so many bags full of like costumes and props and like everything. I think it was like what 20 something bags on the plane alone. And it's a small plane, it's a smaller plane, and so they're like loading all of our stuff on, and they were like, sorry, we're taking off a little later because we had a lot of bags to load onto the plane, and we were all like, Oh my god, I'm surprised that plane wasn't like no.
SPEAKER_04No, literally, fighting for it. Anyways. No, like that was not a few. That wasn't really much. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god. When they're right.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Um, so then after we finished performing, we went back to our hotel, Ulrich, and we got one more night's sleep, and then we got on our bus and we went to Cologne for the day, which was a lot of fun. I loved Cologne, it was so beautiful. It was like our first experience in like a city in Germany, which was really nice. Um, and we did some shopping. I actually got this top when we were doing our shopping in Cologne. Uh, we got to go to Urban Outfitters. It was so beautiful.
SPEAKER_02It was my Euros there.
SPEAKER_04No, truly, truly. I was out of Euros from the start. Like it wasn't really. But we did uh we like the three of us plus Emily, um, shout out Emily. We went and did like a little ramen lunch, like early dinner kind of situation, and it was so delicious. We got to walk around and do some shopping, and one of my favorite moments from that trip is um the the the couple in the urban outfitters. There was this couple, and they were like definitely very German. And I was just walking around and I was in line and I was holding all of my stuff, and this girl had just like walked up and she had like put this top over her clothes, and she was like looking at herself in the mirror. And I could tell that she was like kind of unsure of like how she felt about it, and who I'm presuming was her boyfriend, I don't know who this man was to her, but um, he like she was like said something in German and like looked at him and he just looked at her and went, Das is good, sexy. And I was like, Wow, they do say it here. And it was something really, really funny. I like I was having a really hard time controlling my laughter, but I was like, Well, and also that's so beautiful. Right. Thank you for being kind to your girlfriend.
SPEAKER_02I know, and like Emily said, like, the not the same situation, but like a thing like kind of similar happened to her, like when we were in urban outfitters, like there was a girl with a top on, like looking in the mirror. She was like holding up to herself, and she was like, she wanted to tell her that it looked so good on her, like so bad, but she was like, I don't speak German.
SPEAKER_04She just like had to look at her, like walk past and be like, Oh I would have like I would have just been like no, literally in the mirror, like that is cute. That is cute. No, yeah. Oh, and that was also the cathedral.
SPEAKER_01Yes, the cathedral. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02Huge jewels. So pretty.
SPEAKER_01It was ginormous though. Like I can only imagine how many feet that is. No, truly.
SPEAKER_04I like to look up like this. Like my neck was craned. Why? And we got some pictures, and I took them. Well, I took some, we all took pictures of each other, and Nat took some pictures of me in point five, because I had asked her to, of course.
SPEAKER_00And my legs were like half the size of the cathedral.
SPEAKER_04It was so I don't even think I can post them because like it's so strange looking. Like they are literally, I look like I am as tall as the cathedral. It's terrifying. But other than that, the cathedral is beautiful. And you could go in, but we didn't go in. We wanted to go shopping.
SPEAKER_03We did.
SPEAKER_04That was that was typically my my agenda on this trip, is I wanted to make sure that I got all the shopping in. And I did. I spent a lot of money. But we'll get there. We'll get there. So after Cologne, we went to our next hotel, which was um Oh the Dormero.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Vodka! Vodka!
SPEAKER_04There was a hotel dog, and his name is Vodka, which you can follow him on Instagram. It's world underscore of underscore vodka. I've got it on me. I love that dog. And he followed me back. Me too. So cute, yes. Uh-oh. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Because I tagged him in my post. Which you should put up a picture right here of vodka. Uh vodka.
SPEAKER_02And well, the um the owner who I'm assuming is like the manager of the hotel, who is the owner of vodka, he said that he got him like, I think he was only like four years old or something like that. And he got him from like a dog that had been like a breeder dog or a woman who was like a breeding dog since like the 70s. And so like the rule was like her dogs had to have like the same, like the next letter of the alphabet or something like that. Like like however many like puppies she was on. So vodka, she was like um told the guy vodka or this dog has to be a letter V because either that was the like letter of the alphabet, oh that's what it was. Okay, let me restart. Cut all that up. Okay, okay, so the manager of the hotel says that this woman's been breeding dogs, yada yada yada. And so her dog that was currently like breeding for her was her name started with a V. And so her rule was that the puppies had to start with a letter V. And so the guy gets the dog and is like, oh, well, vodka starts with a V, so I'll name him Vodka. Perfect. And I think that's such a cute little story of like the woman being like, No, it has to be a V. Well, vodka. Right.
SPEAKER_04And that I mean that seems like the most obvious answer. Like, what other V names do you know? Other than Veronica. Of course. Other than that. Um, but the vodka being greeted by vodka at like 10 o'clock at night after we were in a bus all day was like truly the most. Was he there?
SPEAKER_02Did anyone see him? Yeah, he was walking. I didn't see him the first night.
SPEAKER_04Beautiful. It was really cute. And uh not to flex, but Natalie and I had a fantastic room while we were in that hotel the first night. Well, first of all, the Dormero Hotel, I guess, is a really popular chain in Germany and like Austria and like a bunch of other European um countries over there. Um but I was actually reading, so in the bathroom that was in the little like breakfast and lounge area at our first hotel, they had like a plaque there that had like a bunch of words on it. And I was in the bathroom when we were like hanging out our first night with all of the company members, and I was like, you know what, I want to Google translate this and see what's going on. Because like it was so long, I was so intrigued. And it gave me the rundown of like why the Dormaro keys have the red shoe. And it's because originally, um, when they had first started the hotel, the people who like refurbished it and did everything with it, they were like, We want to do something that like makes our guests feel comfortable. Like, we don't want it to feel all like spiffy and uptight and all this other stuff. So the hotel like owner who founded the Dormero, and obviously, like if none of this is right, like you know, please correct me. But I believe what I gathered from the translation is um his signature was to always wear red shoes or red suspenders or some kind of like pop of red with their all black uniform to just like have a bit more of an inviting quality to them. So now like all of the people who work at the hotel usually have some kind of like pop of red that like let you know, like, hey, I work here and I'm friendly, you can come up and talk to me. Like, what are you doing?
SPEAKER_02Like Target?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, like well, not like not like fully red.
SPEAKER_02German Alex from Target.
SPEAKER_04Wow, that wow. Flashback. Alex, I just saw something about him the other day that it was like he turned like 25 or some like crazy number.
SPEAKER_02Remember, he was on Ellen for like just being cute.
SPEAKER_04Yes.
SPEAKER_02That was all you had to do back then. It's true.
SPEAKER_04And I wish it was that easy. You don't know what we're talking about.
SPEAKER_02You don't know Alex from Target?
SPEAKER_04Uh-oh.
SPEAKER_02Should I?
SPEAKER_04Kinda.
SPEAKER_02Kinda. If I knew who he was at like eight, like again with the tie.
SPEAKER_04Truly.
SPEAKER_00Let me just educate myself for it.
SPEAKER_04But, anyways, going back to the importance of the history of the hotel, it was a very special moment for them to all kind of realize that it was something that kind of invited people in. I guess there's also some studies on like that's why McDonald's is like red and yellow, is that those colors like psychologically do something for you. It like presents like an inviting atmosphere or whatever. So I read that and I was like, oh, that's so sweet. Because like it was a beautiful hotel. It was like, it was so nice. Oh my god, it was beautiful.
SPEAKER_02And breakfast was so good. Oh my god, that's where I got yelled at by a German man because I was like touching the bread with my hands. Do y'all remember that?
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_02I told Oh my god. It was like the second day we were there and we were at breakfast, and I'm a dirty, crummy, stupid American. So I'm like going to cut some bread. And a guy like gets up from his table and comes up to me and is like, I don't know what he's saying. He's just like and I was like, what? I'm sorry. And then he like grabs the knife from me and he takes a napkin and puts it on the bread and then cuts the bread, and he's like, And I was like, Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. And he was like, Yeah. Like, not even a worker. Not even a worker, some random hotel guest. And I was like, you know what? That actually makes a lot of sense because in America, you walk up to the bread, you put your hand on it, whether it's clean or not.
SPEAKER_04It's true, it's true. Americans are there, they have class. That was my uh class, uh that was like my favorite joke to make while we were on tour, is that we were just dumb, stupid, close Americans who don't know anything. Because I we we also got yelled at, unfortunately. When we were at that hotel, too. Oh my gosh, that was in Cologne! Well, we were going through a lot that day. When we were in Cologne, the three of us plus Emily were walking around and we were trying to make our way to the cathedral, and we had like just gotten off the bus. We were walking around, we were trying to figure out where we were, looking at directions and everything like that. And this guy on a bike, which to his credit, we were wrong. We did not know what was going on, but it was like sidewalk plus bike lane that had just merged from the road into the sidewalk, and he like stopped his bike and was looking at us as we were waiting to cross the street, and he goes, bike lane, very simple. And we were like, Oh, oh, sorry, sorry. And then he just like got in it, he like gave us like a weird smile and then got on his bike and just like peddled away. And we were like, Okay, welcome to Germany.
SPEAKER_00Very simple. Literally, it it was so funny how every single like German worker anywhere that we interacted with knew we were American. Oh, absolutely. And I'm like, How do you know?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's not it's not that hard to tell. Like, uh I'm not fitting in. However, there were some times in grocery stores where people would like try and talk to me in German, and I'd be like, uh no. And I was talking to my mom about it, and she goes, Well, you got some German in you, so it's not surprising they think you're German. I said, I don't think I present, but like, thank you. It's true.
SPEAKER_02I mean German presenting.
SPEAKER_04It's true, it's true. Uh so maybe I do though. I mean, my mom does say that I have some German in me, so maybe I do. Anyways, so um, but other than that, our stay at the door mayor was beautiful. That city was wonderful. That's where we got to do our first castle. Um that castle was so wonderful.
SPEAKER_00It was the oh my god, the hike.
SPEAKER_04Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_00Let's talk about that real quick. Um, so we decided to go to all try to go to these wineries. Okay. And uh we're like, okay, the first one is like in the castle.
SPEAKER_02It was not. Well, none of them were open, was the problem we were running into. They were either weren't open or you needed reservations, which we kind of knew that would be the case, but we were like going just to see.
SPEAKER_04And it was also a Sunday.
SPEAKER_00It's called the Berg Thur. The Berg Berg Thorant. Yeah. No, no, no, H. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Maybe not.
SPEAKER_00There's an H in there, but I don't think it's anyways. It was gorgeous. But we all decided we're all dressing really, really cute. Okay. Um, I put boots on. I think full-on clonkers. Boots. Clonkers. Good thing they were like thick because I would not be able to do that hike in like actual like.
SPEAKER_02And when we say hike, we mean hike. Like 20 minutes this way.
SPEAKER_00The whole through the treaches of the mountain. Like woods, like woods.
SPEAKER_02Like literally.
SPEAKER_00It was a literal hike like you would do in Utah.
SPEAKER_02Like and everyone's like sweating, and we're all like, oh my god. In our cute little clothes, and there are people passing by us like with backpacks. So like hiking gear.
SPEAKER_04It was, but eventually we made it to the top. And it was gorgeous. It was beautiful. It was so wonderful. And it was really nice that day, too. Which like made it feel almost like rewarding in a sense, you know. But like, and the history of the castle was so, so incredibly interesting. It was like, I think it was built somewhere between like the the 1000 to 1100, like the that kind of span of years, and then it had um been split into two different territories. I don't remember what they one of them was German, and the other one was like some kind of maybe it was like Swedish or it was some other like country, and they like split the castle, but they did not interact with each other because it was gonna like start a war or something. We got like a whole like informational pamphlet about it, which that was another instance where like he immediately just handed us the English, yeah. And we were like, oh, okay, got it, got it. But like it was still really interesting. There was like a dungeon, yeah. There were literal human bones and no cheesecake. It was exactly, exactly, exactly.
SPEAKER_00I didn't know what you were doing at first.
SPEAKER_04I just gotta start flailing. Is that not what it is? That is what it is. That is what it is. Now she's got her ribs. No, no, I don't know. No, I don't know. Anyways, um, there were so many like uh interesting artifacts there that were it was so so cool to see all of that. And the history behind it. I'm such a huge history nerd too. Like I think seeing old stuff is just so awesome. Right?
SPEAKER_02Especially when it's deserved. There was the really like creepy, spooky church in there. Like I didn't like that.
SPEAKER_00Like some like something down in that church.
SPEAKER_04And there was also the wine cellar that had like hundreds and thousands of years old.
SPEAKER_00What did the one that Nick look at? It was like 12 something.
SPEAKER_0412 like 54 or 15 or something like that. Yeah. So, so cool. Um, so after we did that, we were able to return to our hotel. We got another night's sleep there, and then after that, uh Dormero Hotel.
SPEAKER_00Wait, on that day, we went to this donor place, and it was so good. I got the seafood spaghetti. Yeah, and then I did not have a good experience. I was duped. But me and Fortunately got these giant donors, and they ugh, it was like full, it was literally this big. I had to eat it with two hands.
SPEAKER_04So, for anyone that may not be aware, I don't know if it's junior or donor. I've heard both many times.
SPEAKER_02But it's a two dots.
SPEAKER_04Whatever it is, it's um like uh this giant thing of meat that's on this uh machine that spins and they like shave. It can be like chicken, lamb, beef, like whatever you want it to be. And it's in like pita bread, and then they put a bunch of different I think ours had like tomatoes and cucumbers, lettuce, and I think there was a little bit of cheese in mine. There was this yummy yummy sauce. I don't know what it was, but and it they're huge. Like I'm not even kidding. Like, it was like the size of a watermelon. Yeah, like it was huge, and I ate the whole thing. Oh my gosh, it was so good. And I low-key regretted it later because I I felt like I was nine months pregnant. Like it, oh my gosh, it was so good. So it was worth it. It was worth it. Did we perform while we were there?
SPEAKER_00No, no, that was the two-hour rehearsal markthrough. Oh my gosh. In this big of a space.
SPEAKER_04Oh my god, it was so many times.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god, and it was dirty.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, there were decorations from New Year's Eve on the floor that I kept five day.
SPEAKER_02That was where they filmed the Darby and Daryl podcast. And we did like a like markthrough of Romeo and Juliet in there just so we could like have it in our bodies, whatever. And then it just that was the day that me, me, Nat, and Veronica were like cutting out that day. Like, because in Romeo and Juliet, like I've talked about this before, my really special part as the druggie of I have my friend who is a hooker, and she wears this really epic wig, right? Like mullet. And V's like obsessed with the wig. And we created a whole character around the wig alone, and her name is Tina because like Tina Turner. And so me, Nat and V, for like probably the entire second half of the Romeo, Juliet, we're just talking about, oh, and then right here, Tina will fly down from the sky with an electric guitar, and then she'll go out into the like a pink concert, like a pink concert. And she'll do backflips, backflips, backflips, and then she'll land in the audience, and we were going, we were going for so long. Like, I mean Darby and Peter are doing the like death duet. Like Peter is like, and we're like Tina Turner is in the back. And we're like, oh, yes, there's a boat. The piano and she's gliding across the room. Right. Because there was there was nothing else we could do in that moment. Like because we're just sitting here watching them mark the dance and we were like, so how do we make this interesting?
SPEAKER_04It was really funny. It was really funny. Um yeah, but other than that, Dormero, that hotel was wonderful. It was the river Aiken. Alkin. Alkin. Darn it. I'm getting my vowels mixed up. Ulric. Uric. Ulric and Alkin. Yeah. That was really confusing for me when we were there too. That was really oh, but I forgot. Uh Natalie and I's room, we were flexing earlier and we got we forgot to dive holes, but we had a balcony and it was just this like long runway, like at least 10 feet. It was so beautiful. And our first night there, we like were all hanging out downstairs. We were like getting, you know, chatting, catching up after our travel day. And then like a bunch of us went back up to our room. We were just kind of like hanging out for a little bit, and it was so cute. That was like one of my favorite nights that we had.
SPEAKER_02And you guys had such a like amazing view of the castle. Like they could literally see like the entire castle from their balconies. Meanwhile, me and Emily were shoved into this little teeny tiny corner. Like their room was like triple the size of ours. Like it was insane. So we walked in there and we were like, what?
SPEAKER_00Like their like shower was in the same room as their bed. And we had like a whole closet and then the bathroom.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Bedroom, closet, bathroom. And me and Emily had bedroom, maybe a bathroom.
SPEAKER_03Toilet next to your bed.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, and that was the hotel where you either had scalding hot water or freezing cold water.
SPEAKER_04Oh my, that was miserable.
SPEAKER_00Me and Ian almost had to like go shower in Athena's shower because we were like, we're out of hot water. Like we haven't even showered yet. And Athena's like, well, mine is also freezing cold.
SPEAKER_02I don't really know what was going up on with it because we kind of figured that they turned the hot water off at a certain hour, but then there were people taking showers like in the morning who also had the same issues.
SPEAKER_04And Nick said that he took a hot shower at night after we had all about that hanging out. So I don't I feel like it might have been something to do with like the floors or you know just the way that the water was being distributed. I don't know. But all I know is that I was like screaming in agony the entire time I was taking my freezing cold shower.
SPEAKER_02He was in there and I was like, and I had to let I have to like gear myself up to get under the water and be like, I feel alive.
SPEAKER_04No, like literally. No, literally. I was supposed to wash my hair that night too, and I was like, there's no way. Like I literally can't. I was just like taking cups of the cold water and like splashing it on my body and going, oh it was miserable. I oh my and you know, I sound so privileged too. Like it's so awful, but like it's a luxury that you forget to take it for granted.
SPEAKER_02They don't have like washcloths like in the hotel room because in that like you could just like put the washcloths on then like use it on your body, but they don't do that. It's like a hand towel and like regular towel. I wasn't gonna get in there with a hand towel.
SPEAKER_04Right. Loki, I wish you would have thought of that though. That could have been that would have been smart. Yeah. But it's desperate times to call for desperate measures. Yeah. Anyways, other than that, beautiful experience. It was wonderful. It was my favorite hotel for sure. Oh, yeah. So then I I'm my memory is kind of fading here. I don't what what happened after that? I'm looking at the schedule right now. Was it worms?
SPEAKER_01Is it Dusk Worms?
SPEAKER_04It was the Board Worms, not the Boar Worms. But we we skipped Frankfurt. We were going to go to Frankfurt originally, and then we didn't get to because it was like too far out of the way, or the bus drivers couldn't get us there, or something. I don't know. But we had we did on that note though, we had the most wonderful crew getting us around. Our bus drivers were so fun. They were so like into all of our shows they watched every single night. And the one guy loved Hey mommy. That was Hey Mommy, you sexy. He was so cute. It was really adorable. The whole of our crew that we had was so wonderful.
SPEAKER_02They were Russian, not German.
SPEAKER_04I know. I didn't know that. We all yelled Russian at them right as we got on the airport.
SPEAKER_02We went to Mainz. Mainz. Mainz after. And that was another cute little cast of it. That was gorgeous. Was it a castle or a cathedral? I think it was a cathedral.
unknownIt was a cathedral.
SPEAKER_02Cathedral.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I did some shopping there.
SPEAKER_04I did do shopping at Maine.
SPEAKER_02We saw the swans. This was when you got boy time with Carson. Oh yes!
SPEAKER_04We had Dude Bro time and I was telling Peter what to buy. And Carson bought some lovely pants. That was a that was a cute little city for sure.
SPEAKER_02It was really fun.
SPEAKER_04And then I ended up with you two, and then I mama e Papa. I was just like walking around. Like, it was low-key, really beautiful. And we saw the man on the stop, the stoplight. The little guy. Oh, yeah, those love those. There was just like a cute little character that was just like on the stoplight that they had, and it was adorable. I I like ran to my phone to take a picture of it. It was so it's definitely gonna make it in my dump. But um, I I keep saying that I'm gonna post it, and I still haven't posted it yet. I'm like really procrastinating because I have like 37 photos. I know I can't leave them out. It's really hard. Um, anyways, we'll get there. You'll see a little later.
SPEAKER_02That was the day of me. So we were in the New Yorker, which is a store, like a European store, I guess, and it's like what they their version of like what Americans wear, and like they hit the nail on the head. True, because like this stuff in there was so freaking cute and so cheap. It was so nice. And then um, Carson, Peter, and Ian, they they were having a time in there. So me, Emily, Nat, and then Naomi and Ramseys, we like made our way because I really had to pee, or like all of us did. So we had to like we were on a mission to go find a bathroom. So we were like texting and then we just got separated for the day. But we ended up by like the lake, and we saw a lot of wildlife. It was crazy. We saw these, like we were surrounded by pigeons. It was crazy.
SPEAKER_00And by the way, the animals in Germany are just 10 times larger than any animal here. Like we would see like a chicken on the side of the road, and we're like, is that a chicken? It's huge, like it's huge. And so we saw all these ducks, and they are like, I want to say this. They were weird ducks, like weirdly huge. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And I was like, And then swans. There was a swan that was just in the lake and it came up and it said hi to us, and then it like started kind of like flapping its wings at us, and so we all had to back up a little bit.
SPEAKER_04It knew that we were Americans.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it knew we were Americans, but Americans.
SPEAKER_04That's funny.
SPEAKER_02That was but we were just surrounded by birds for a little bit. It's wonderful. We walked and we got some gelado. It was a really that it was a really cute city. We got those pretzels too. Oh my god, the pretzels were good. I got it. Oh my god. How many people I was full that day. I just kept eating snacks and more snacks and snacks. I literally got like a personal pizza like this big and then a pretzel on top of that. And I ate it. I was Carson for the day. Well, and I just kept going.
SPEAKER_04That being said, like the food in Germany was just incredible. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_02The McDonald's. Oh we were we were very well aware of McDonald's.
SPEAKER_04We were we were very close friends with Mr. Ronald. Oh my goodness. Mr. Ronald McDonald's. Mr. Ronald McDonald's.
SPEAKER_02We I think we stopped there after like five out of six of our shows.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it was crazy. And I ate it every single time.
SPEAKER_02Oh, absolutely.
SPEAKER_04And I was tearing it.
SPEAKER_02Because everything was closed.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, McDonald's was the only thing that was open when we got done. Oh my gosh. And then, okay, so then we get to, I don't remember how you say the hotel. It's like A C H A T. A A chat.
SPEAKER_02I'm calling it A chat.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. But it was a
SPEAKER_02Which is which also funny story, really quick. Like step in time from Mary Poppins. That's awkward. That's awkward. You didn't know we were saying that the whole time. Step in time.
SPEAKER_04This is the first time I'm hearing a fine.
SPEAKER_02It's like it's the chimney sweep song. Steppenheim, step and time. I don't know. I was saying that all the time. I didn't know. Never need a reason, never need a why. Heppenheim.
SPEAKER_04Okay. All right. Well, noted. Got received. Understood.
SPEAKER_03Okay, received.
SPEAKER_04Okay, received. But, anyways, we went to Heppenheim, and one funny moment that like really I think about all the time when I think about Heppenheim is we were filming Darby's podcast, and I was talking to Daryl after we'd wrapped, and he was like, I was like, where are we going after this? Like, what is the name of the city? He was like, Oh, I don't know. Something like Heppenfartter. And I like, I kept, I was like, that is not what it's called, Daryl. Okay. Like, please. And he was like, I don't know what it's called. I guess we'll find now. But like every whenever we were in Heppenheim, like I kept thinking about it. Something about Heppenfartter. I was like, Daryl, come on now. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_02And it's like bad to like make fun of another language, but it's just like, okay, like your version of like passage exit is fart. But in America that means the passing of gas. It's true. It's funny. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. And I hate to be a stupid, dumb American in that way, but I am.
SPEAKER_04Stupid, dumb, gross American doesn't know anything.
SPEAKER_02I literally created a fart collection in my notes. Oh, yeah. And I collect the Dirk fart, Ausfart. And what was the Einfart? Einfart. And Einfart is entrance, Ausfart is exit. And then Dirk fart is passage.
SPEAKER_03Wow.
SPEAKER_02So I learned some German while I was there. There you go. By the way of farting.
SPEAKER_04Because that's all that Americans really care about. Danka. That's my favorite one.
SPEAKER_00Ireland said that to me today. Like we were like a man. And I was like passing her water bottle, and she was like, ah, Danka.
SPEAKER_02And I said, oh my god, the day we were in. Oh, once we got to sorry. Because once we got to Heppenheim, that was like the cute city with like the little like strip that we walked to, right? That was when we had those really good chocolate croissants. Yes.
SPEAKER_04We went grocery shopping, the four of us. Um, and we went to this uh was it Little Little? I kept calling it Lidl.
SPEAKER_02L-I-D-L.
SPEAKER_04Lidl. Little Lidl Lee. Anyway.
SPEAKER_02That was your Heppenheim moment. Heppenbarner.
SPEAKER_04Oh my gosh. I hope a German person doesn't watch this. Like, we're so cooked. Sorry. We loved your country, I promise.
SPEAKER_00Sorry, Peter Tenbosch, we love your head.
SPEAKER_04No, literally. Um, but anyways, so when we got to Heppenheim, we were just walking around. We had the really good chocolate croissants, we went grocery shopping, and um that hotel was pretty cute too. That was the one where we sat outside and ate um our food on your little because this time they had like a little rooftop entrance from their hotel room, Emily and Athena.
SPEAKER_02And we were right next to Carson and Lily.
SPEAKER_04Uh-huh. And that's where we filmed our podcast with V.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm. That was a really that was a pretty cute little area.
SPEAKER_04That was cute. There was a gym, and I got to go get a quick pump in while I was there. It was really wonderful. I really enjoyed that actually. And then, one of my favorite moments from the entire trip, we had just gotten done with one of our performances. We did Romeo and Juliet. I don't remember what the it was Das Wormsers Theater.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because it was in Worms, the city.
SPEAKER_04And we had like a little bit of a drive, but it wasn't too bad. And we had just gotten back, they couldn't stop, I think, or we didn't want to stop or something for food after the show. I don't really remember what it was, but um, so we're all like, oh my gosh, like we didn't really plan to eat anything for tonight. Like, I don't have any food to eat anything sustainable. So I Natalie and I get up to our room and I like just put my stuff down and I get a call from Lily, and she then texts me and she was like, Carson is running to McDonald's to go grab us something. Do you want to go with him? And I like spur of the moment was like, Alright, I'm going. Because usually, no, I wouldn't. But thanks so much for asking. But I was like, I'm hungry. Like, we I need to eat something. Like, so and I didn't want Carson to go alone either. That was like part of the reason why. I think that's what Lily later told me that like that was kind of why she had asked me to go if I wanted to go because like she didn't want him to go alone. But Carson and I, we started walking, and it was, I think it was like a mile, like like yeah, it was a mile away from where our hotel was, and it said that it was gonna take us like some like 25 minutes to get there. Carson and I decided that it would be more efficient if we ran because they were going to close at like I think it was like 12, and we had left at like 1120-ish. We got there in about 10 minutes. We sprinted the entire way from our hotel to the McDonald's through all of the streets of um Heppenfart. I don't know how all of the streets to get over to this McDonald's, and I mean those workers were not very happy with us. But I was like, thank you so much. Like, I'm sorry we came in so late, whatever. And she was like, oh no, like don't worry about it. And we got us all food for like all 60 chicken nuggets.
SPEAKER_0260 chicken nuggets.
SPEAKER_04Matt and I some food. We kept joking, we were like, we have to go back, we have to go get food and like hunter and gather, provide for our families back at the shelters. Like, we needed to make sure that we were providing for our women. No, it's true. It's true. We had to go out and hunt for our dinner, right? So, but it was it was like low-key really cold, and I wasn't really wearing a jacket. I I think I was in shorts, actually. I don't even remember, but probably in basketball shorts. Yeah, TBH. It it was it wasn't too bad, and it was honestly a lot of fun. It was a nice little bonding moment for Carson and I. It was really cute. Um You got Dude Bro time. We did, we got extra dude bro time that night. It was really, really sweet. Um, and then after Worms, that was kind of um we did another performance. Um no, just kidding. We didn't. We did the performance at the Worms Theater, and then we went back to our hotel, and then we shipped off to another, it was the Trip In, which I don't really rem Oh that was that was the spooky one.
SPEAKER_02That was Oh my god, that was the weird one with the weird chair with the sheet over it in the corner, and it was really hot. It was so hot. It was y'all didn't have a weird chair in the corner of your room with a sheet over it.
SPEAKER_04The whole room was so small. It was so small. Which room? I can't think of it. It was the one that didn't have any outlets. And with a roundabout with McDonald's near it. Oh, you're right. And we inundated those poor McDonald's workers.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, and there was the weird stalker guys in the middle.
SPEAKER_04I mean, and to their credit though, like Loki, if I were a German person and saw these like crazy group of Americans walk in, I'd be like, what is happening? No, but he was like, don't film me. It was weird. But like also, like, I understand. But also, don't film me.
SPEAKER_02And like he started out like by the entrance, and it was just him alone, like filming, and then he joined some other people on the other side, and they were just like staring at us and like laughing at us.
SPEAKER_04It was kind of weird. It was kind of weird. But I mean, again, uncharted territory.
SPEAKER_02I had to make sure that they left before we left. I was like, no, they're getting in their truck and leaving before I step out of this McDonald's. Sorry for clothes.
SPEAKER_04Like I can't, like yeah, we were there like 15 minutes to close.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was and there were it was like the entire company.
SPEAKER_04But we had like just gotten off the bus meeting. I know.
SPEAKER_02We were all starving.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that was kind of like our MO the entire trip. Like, we just were really we had a hanker in, and there wasn't a whole lot of time for us to get our food. So we always needed to be in that McDonald's. So we were always there an hour before they came.
SPEAKER_00Because there was no like microwave or fridge in our hotel room. So we couldn't except any chamber food.
SPEAKER_04Yes, uh, there was a little fridge.
SPEAKER_02The fridge with five free drinks. Oh my god, the German Coke. Oh, the German Coke. I was addicted. I was addicted to Coke while I was in Germany. Oh really bad. It's really good, guys. If you're alive, if you're ever in Germany, you need to get a Coke Coca-Cola! Coca-Cola and also like everyone else, like all the Diet Coke girlies were drinking Coke Zeros and they're like, oh, it's not as good, it's not as good. I'm like, guys, get the real stuff. Like and I did her with the zero sugar.
SPEAKER_04I will say it wasn't because I don't really like the Coke Zero in America. Right. So I thought that it was like pretty okay over there.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I was because you need to drink Diet Coke here.
SPEAKER_04It's true. It's true.
SPEAKER_00The Diet Coke here is great. Yeah, yeah. The Coke Zero in Germany was not my favorite. It tasted like I was drinking cinnamon for a sec, like the aftertaste, which threw me off. But I did have a regular Coca-Cola and it was better.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I do.
SPEAKER_04No, it was really good. Well, and I also got a Dr. Pepper. And we were really worried that it was gonna like skew our perception of Dr. Pepper back in the States, but like it really wasn't anything too serious.
SPEAKER_02I compared it to like it was like a Dr. Pepper that had like been sitting on my nightstand for like five hours while I took a nap. And then I woke up and was like, oh well, it's still here, so I have to finish it.
SPEAKER_04But like it was still cold somehow.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Uh-huh. Uh but other than that, though, we were only at the trip in for one night. I think we like just stayed there and then we went from the trip in to our next hotel.
SPEAKER_02It was Heidelberg. Oh my god, what a day, guys.
SPEAKER_00Big Big Barrel! Big Barrel! And my souvenir. Oh boy.
SPEAKER_02We all have something about Heidelberg that scorned us.
SPEAKER_04I had a great time in Heidelberg. I'm so glad. Oh, I did it. I didn't know. I didn't.
SPEAKER_02In hindsight. In hindsight, I look back and I think that was a fun day. But in the moment, you know, y'all were with me. Oh my god, when we were in the cast. Oh we get we get to Heidelberg and we stop there, and then we have like two hours to roam around. But it's like 40 degrees and raining, and I did not look at the weather. I did not dress for the weather. So I'm literally in like a bodysuit and a hoodie, and I'm freezing. And I'm like, guys, I just want to get inside. I don't care where we go, I just want to get inside. And they're like, well, we want to go to the castle. Like, okay, great, let's go to the castle. Like, let's walk around. I don't care. I just need to keep my body moving. And we did the big incline hike up the hill to get to the castle. And it was 11 euros, not worth my 11 euros. No. No, because you couldn't go in anything. If you wanted to go in somewhere, it was like more money that you had to pay. But things started looking up. Up as in. Because we we we bared witness to the big barrel. It's a giant keg, and it is the world's largest barrel in Germany. But I don't know what they call it in German, but the English translation that they had for it was literally big barrel. We go and we we see the big barrel, we walk on top of the big barrel, we fantasize about the big barrel.
SPEAKER_04We take pictures with the big beer.
SPEAKER_02We swam in the big barrel.
SPEAKER_04I drank some wine from the big barrel.
SPEAKER_02There's nothing in the big barrel.
SPEAKER_04So I don't think it's ever been filled, actually. I think I read that it's never been filled.
SPEAKER_02It's just for terrible. Daryl White.
SPEAKER_00He was like, and this is where they kept all the beer in the big barrel.
SPEAKER_03Um, I believe.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_04Well, I read online I because we were curious, we were like, what is the world's largest barrel? And it is that barrel, and it holds 1.2 million liters. Isn't that crazy? It could. It doesn't currently, but it could possess the ability to. But it that that was definitely a a trial and tribulation of it.
SPEAKER_02It was. I was I was miserable. We were all like, people were taking pictures in the castle, and then like Lily looks at me and she's like, Do you want a picture? And I just stared at her. I was like, it was that it was not my day.
SPEAKER_04It was just hard too because we had like woken up really early at our hotel and we weren't going to our next well, we were going to go to our hotel. That was unbeknownst to us at first, but we were only going to make this quick stop before we then jumped over to our next hotel. So like morale was already a little bit low. We were all pretty tired, and it was, but like Heidelberg itself is a beautiful, beautiful place. It had like all these wonderful shops, the Christmas market, and all these wonderful things. It just we also didn't have enough time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we didn't have a lot of time.
SPEAKER_04I I got a wallet.
SPEAKER_02Work.
SPEAKER_04I know it was it's really fierce. It holds so many things.
SPEAKER_00Um I got a magnet.
SPEAKER_04All right, here we go. Here we go.
SPEAKER_00I'm like literally gonna start crying because I'm so upset. But I got this gorgeous magnet, and it was like a like glass china, like it was supposed to be like a China plate, like with Heidelberg on it. And I got, I said, oh, okay, my one souvenir from Germany. And I get home. This was two days ago, by the way. It's still fresh. It's still fresh. I get home and I'm like, I'm gonna put this on our fridge, and it's gonna be so cute. And I go and I just go boom and it fell and shattered everywhere because I was like, my one souvenir from freaking Germany is in a million pieces on my kitchen floor. And then I find out that our front of our fridge is not magnetic.
SPEAKER_04It's just the side.
SPEAKER_00Where all of our stuff is. So I like thought I should know that all of our magnet stuff is on the side of the fridge, but I want it on the side. Yeah, you want it on the front. I want it on the front.
SPEAKER_04That's fair. That's fair.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna try to glue it together and we'll see how it's.
SPEAKER_04I feel like you were able to collect most of the pieces.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it broke in bigger pieces, but the really small ones might be a little difficult.
SPEAKER_04I believe in it's like when people make chips in a bottle. You know, like I feel like you could like Right, right.
SPEAKER_02She has the like magnify.
SPEAKER_04Yes, it hangs over her head and she's staring at it like that. You know what? I'm gonna do it and we'll see how we can do it. Yes, uh, you probably go on the Amazon. Yeah, you're right. Oh myways, so we stopped in Heidelberg, went to our second Dormero Hotel after the trip in, and unfortunately, check-in was not until three, and we had arrived there fairly early. So, um we couldn't check in to the Dormero Hotel. Well, some of us did. Natalie and I did not. And you had to repack your stuff? Oh my gosh. Okay, should we I I feel like this might like defame the image of our boss if we like kind of divulge in this story.
SPEAKER_01Because he stole the hotel key.
SPEAKER_00Oh, this hotel. Yeah, I think that's the one. I was crying in the uh lobby. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_04Uh-huh. So basically, we get to this hotel and check-in was not until 3 p.m. We got in there at like 1. We were gonna ship off to go to our uh our next theater at 2. So uh Daryl decided that there were keys on the desk and they were ours, he assumed. So he grabbed all of the keys and he started handing them out, making sure that everyone got their keys, and then behind the desk, indeed.
SPEAKER_02Behind the desk indeed. Those are mine.
SPEAKER_04So some of us get up to our rooms, not all of us get up to our rooms, and then I don't remember who it was, but someone started getting like yelled at by it.
SPEAKER_02It wasn't me. It was me, Emily. No, it wasn't me specifically, but me, Emily, Riley, Allie, Isaiah, and Peter, we were all on the same floor. And so we get up there and there are cleaners, and they're like, oh, our rooms aren't serviced yet. And then the cleaners are talking, they're like looking at us, they're like, what's going on? And then Peter tries to go up and like talk to them in German to understand, and they were like, no, you can't come in here, check-in's not till three. You need to leave. And we were like, oh, so we had to go back down and like, and then there was the whole like kerfuffle we were trying to get like Marcel, our like tour like person to communicate. This is killing me because they were both German, but they were speaking in English to each other. Like they were like, Marcel, can you please figure this out for us? And then he was like, Hey, what's going on? We're like, so that was funny. And then he was like, Can you get your manager? And the woman was like, He's not here. And he was like, Well, can you get him on the phone? And she was like, No. So what are we doing? So what are we doing?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so then we all had to come back to the lobby and we had to get back on the bus. We were able to stop at a cute little grocery store, which had a conveyor belt stair where you like brought the cart on and it like came down in a downward angle. It was so fierce. Oh, yeah. It was so fierce. I had never seen, I feel like I've only ever seen those in like movie and TV shows. Right. I was like, wow, I get to live this. This is crazy. But we did some grocery shopping and we went to our next theater after that, which that was that the Chicago no, no, no. That was Chicago. Where we spaced for in two seconds. Oh, right. Was that the long drive that we had too?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00And we all did our pin curls in the bus. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04But that theater was stunning. Gorgeous. Oh my gosh. It had glass, what is it called? Stained glass, like all over the windows, and it was like giant, like floor to ceiling windows all over. The seats were so cute. And it was really beautiful. It was a really beautiful thing. And there was so much. Yeah. And it was the same situation as our first place where like we had to go down many flights of stairs and down many hallways to get to our dressing rooms, but that was when Mo's forgot his ribbon. Oh boy. Oh. That was indeed when Mo's forgot his ribbon.
SPEAKER_02And you know that to his credit, we were all kerfuffled, we were all scrambled, we were all scrambled in the backstage, but he forgot his ribbon for South Block. And it's like the big climax of the dance. When we pull the little ribbons out of it, it's like, oh, I killed my husband. This is his blood. Wow! Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Ribbon for me to pull out. And so I beat Mo's up that day. I literally, I was pushing him around and I was like, Where's your ribbon? Where's your ribbon? Where's your ribbon? And he was like, ah. I was literally, I was like, no, come back. We still have to dance.
SPEAKER_03Boom!
SPEAKER_02I was ripping him. I was literally like pulling it, pushing it, pulling it, stabbing it, ripping it, boom!
SPEAKER_04And just like that. And just like that.
SPEAKER_02Oh. And he died. My god, and he died. And oh, and he'll never do it again. I told him at his third strike, I'm pushing him off stage. I don't care.
SPEAKER_04It really becomes a solo then. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_00And then a few days later, we were in the same dressing room as Liesel. Oh my god. And we were talking to Liesel about it, and she's like, Yeah, I talked to him about that. I talked to him. That over. And we did this. And I'm like, thank you, Liesel. Thank you. That poor sweet boy. Bad boy. I love them both. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but that is that is the fact where that happened. But like they said earlier, we like had to space within a matter of like 45 minutes. We didn't even have class. Like it was, it was a very quick turnaround time. But again, that was kind of like the nature of what we were doing, which I think really does speak to our professionalism as well. I think it like really it was a testament of our abilities. It was a really good show.
SPEAKER_02That was Carson's magic trick. It was really funny. During intermission, he he was the court jester for us. It was so good. And we just kept going and we were giving him new scenarios. Okay, now your mom's mad at you. Now Lily's mad at you. Now this is happening. It was so good.
SPEAKER_04It was funny. That was a great theater. I did like that one. It was really pretty. So then after that, we had, I think we only had one more performance. That was like, no, no, no. We had because our last one was Chicago, right?
SPEAKER_02Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet Chicago. After that, we never, after that point, we never really like stopped in cities. It was just like kind of go, go, go. We just did the shows. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Which I think then to that point, that was kind of like the wrap of the tour. We after we did that performance of Chicago, we went back to our Dormero hotel and we spent another night there, I'm pretty sure. And then we moved to another Dormero hotel where we did two more performances. We did um Romeo and Juliet, another Romeo and Juliet, and then Chicago. Maybe three more. I don't know. Again, y'all, it's like it's been a lot. I have no idea what day it was.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, me and no, because we only spent one night in the last Dormero. Yeah. Because that was the best hotel. It was. And we only got one night there.
SPEAKER_04Right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02With the naked woman in the shower. Oh my god, the giant naked woman.
SPEAKER_04Okay, to clarify, it was a mural on the wall. It was a woman. To clarify, it was a little bit.
SPEAKER_02Me and Emily, I literally felt like um, what's the guy's name who's like, the British are coming? Like Paul Revere.
SPEAKER_01Paul Revere.
SPEAKER_02I felt like Paul Revere because we step out into the hall. We were like, guys, there's a naked woman in our shower. And we were all like, guys, guys, go look at the naked woman. But it was just a big mural, like painting of a literal naked woman. Yeah. Which, you know, likely place for a naked woman to be in the shower. It's true.
SPEAKER_04I was just like her.
SPEAKER_02But it was a shock.
SPEAKER_04Yes, uh, and I I mean I loved her. Like we were cutting the biggest. She was gorgeous.
SPEAKER_00I remember Ian walked in first and he went like straight into the bathroom and then he gasped so loudly. I literally thought someone was like dead in our bathroom.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, Emily, like she walks in the bathroom and she goes, Athena, there's a naked lady in here. I was like, and I like, I think I was too tired. I didn't even register what she said. I was like, oh ha ha ha ha. And then she's like, No, Athena, like, there's a painting of a naked woman. And I was like, uh oh. And then I saw it. I was like, wow.
SPEAKER_04Oh my god. But she was done. Big barrel. No, like. Um phenom rum. I cannot believe you. I cannot believe you right now.
SPEAKER_01That was my daddy moment.
SPEAKER_04No, leave that in there.
SPEAKER_03You know what?
SPEAKER_04Oh my gosh. But other than that, that was pretty much our German tour. And we got on a plane that next morning. My suitcase was 36 pounds. Clock it. That's crazy. And we got on our plane. We had like an hour-ish flight from uh Munich to Amsterdam. And then we went from Amsterdam to Salt Lake via direct flight, which that 10-hour flight was definitely really rough. But all of us were sitting in the back of the plane and we were causing quite the disturbance. It was really, really funny. It was really fun.
SPEAKER_00It was so good.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I wasn't watching, I was on my phone the whole time. I have such a hard time like sleeping while I travel and doing things while I travel. It's just like I feel so confined and I've restricted that like I can't like do anything. Yeah. So that I mean, but I was able to make myself busy. You know, I had lots of snacks, lots of bathroom breaks. I was sitting next to Ireland. And eventually I started like watching a movie with Ireland, but like I wasn't listening to it, so I was just like watching her scream like for the last like two hours of the flight. I was like reading the subtitles. It was really good. It was the movie that Ramses was telling us about it. Bogonia. Yes, Bogonia, yes. Uh-huh. Bergadonia.
SPEAKER_02Heppenfartner, Bergadonia. I'm like Daryl.
SPEAKER_04I'm like Daryl. Oh my gosh. So, anyways, so um, well, guys, that's pretty much.
SPEAKER_03That's Germany.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that was Germany. It was a lot of fun, actually. It was so beautiful. It was so everywhere was so pretty. It was so fun and just like I feel like it was an experience that like it really, you don't come by it very often where you get to do this as your job, firstly, but secondly, just experience it with like your family and get to like still branch off and do your own thing, but have the consistency of work and what you love to do. Like it it really was like a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I I'm so grateful that we got to do it. Like it was so wonderful.
SPEAKER_02It was really nice to like be a tourist and like also a dancer, right? You know, because we had like the first half of our trip, it was really like we explained it all, but it was just a lot of like seeing the sights and like looking at all these beautiful cities in Germany, and then the last half was just like go, go, go. It went by so fast once we got into all those performances, it was like a dang.
SPEAKER_04Getting the best of both worlds was definitely like one of the best parts of the trip, too. Because I mean, like you said, we got to be a tourist, and then we also got to be there for work, which I think kind of like made me appreciate it almost like a little bit more in a sense, because while we still got to do all the touristy things, like the our main objective was to dance and connect with our audience and do all of this stuff, and that like felt just as special as getting to see the giant cathedral or walking out and shopping in Eppenheimer.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04What is it called? Eppenheim.
SPEAKER_03Eppenheimer you just keep adding syllables, anyways.
SPEAKER_04Um, but I think other than that, that's our Germany tour.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um, I hope you guys enjoyed all of the content that you got to consume, whether you follow us on Instagram, whether you watch the podcast, whatever. I had such a great time, you know. I'm sure that you guys it was really fun.
SPEAKER_02But I also feel like we like um were talking to a lot of people that we wouldn't usually like hang out with, yeah, otherwise, like on the company. Like me, Lily, Carson, and Emily, we were like this for a lot of the trip. Like, we found ourselves together a lot, which was really fun because I think we kind of like operated on like the same schedules a little bit. Like I mean, like you said, like you and Nat like room together really well because you like have the same flow of things, and like me and Emily are the exact same way. We didn't talk to each other ever in the mornings. We would wake up and we would like look at our phones and then we would like get ready, and then like, okay, it's time to go. We're like, You ready? Okay, let's go. Like literally silence, and it was it was amazing. That's really we were we were two pieces in a pod that whole trip.
SPEAKER_04It was really, it was really great, right?
SPEAKER_02And then the occasional third when she FaceTimed Trev and everything.
SPEAKER_04Of course, of course. Uh and like you said, like it was so nice to get to be with all of our company and like interact with people that you don't normally get to. I think like I got so much closer with like I would say like I got so much closer with Carson and like I was hanging out with you guys a lot, and I was having my dude bro time. Uh dude bro time was definitely something that was a lot of fun because like all of the men were very commonly, all of the girls were like prioritized in terms of dressing rooms and stuff like that. So like they always got to have the mirror, they got to have the closest space because like obviously their shows are a lot harder than ours are typically. Um, so like the guys would just kind of like get pushed to the back a little bit, and we would just kind of like sit in whatever dressing room we had, and we would always be together, which is what I call dude bro bro dude time. And it was just like it was so much fun, right? Dude bro bro dude time, huh? Dude time, it was so much fun to just like be with all my bros because I don't get to be with my bros a lot, you know? Like and I mentioned, oh, and also on top of that, I got to celebrate my birthday while we were in Germany. I know, and that was it was really, really special because I love oh my god.
SPEAKER_02My favorite was like during Chicago, because we did Chicago that night. And just the constant, like every opportunity I got when we were on saying, Happy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday, the whole time, the whole show. And I don't know if anyone else was in on it with me, but I literally we're not in a lot of pieces together in Chicago. So like every chance I got, I was like, Happy birthday!
SPEAKER_04It was really sweet. It was like Tembosh and Isaiah like decorated my spot on the bus for me when we got into our uh on the bus that morning, and um like all day long people were just like celebrating me, and Ali got me like a little present and like it was really, really sweet. And I was telling um Ireland about this, and then I went up and I said this and like on the microphone in front of all of the bus. Um, but I was like, I didn't really get to be like with my I haven't been with my family like for my birthday in a really long time. It's like uh the way that my schedule has always run. I've always been in a different place than the rest of my like family family. So getting to experience this birthday with like the closest semblance of family that I have, which like I do consider you guys my family very much. So like just the atmosphere which we have is is really special. So getting to do that nonetheless in a foreign country was just like it was such a magical experience, and I'm so glad that I was able to share it with everyone, and I got to perform and do what I love on my birthday. Like it was it was really magical. It was really magical. I'm super, super grateful. So um, another great part of what we got to do while we were in Germany is on the bus ride back, sometimes the bus rides would be a little bit longer, but sometimes they were shorter. It just kind of depended on where we were, obviously. But one of the things that has been a Germany tradition for like years and years and years is um there is a microphone at the front of the bus, and Veronica is usually the one to lead it. This year it was also uh Peter Mortensen. Um, and they led confessions, which we would able, we were able to go up and we could confess something from the show. We were able to give a shout-out from the show or that day or whatever. We were able to answer a question that Veronica had posed to us, like whatever. And it was just an opportunity for us to kind of be together at the end of the day and share stories and get together, connect, whatever, whatever. And that was just so much fun.
SPEAKER_02It's like her rule of like say whatever you want about what happened during the show. Daryl can't do anything about it. It's like he let she what does she say? She's like, he's closing his ears, like he's not listening to you, like say whatever you want, confess it. Oh, he absolutely was. When I like snitched on myself because I died in a different outfit than I normally do. And he would have never known, is the thing is he would have never known if I didn't confess it. And he was like, No, wear the outfit we told you to go out about.
SPEAKER_04No, it's true. Um, but that was, and what I was just talking about is I got on front of the mic and I was able to talk to everyone, obviously. Um but that was just it was really special to hear um from everyone in general because again, like there are so many people on this company, we don't always get to connect with everyone on like a deeper level, shall I say. But um, it was nice to hear like anecdotes from the show and everything like that, because you don't really get to interact with a lot of people if you don't if you're not in the same dances or anything like that. Like there are things that I would hear all night that I'd be like, I had no idea that happened. Right, yeah. Especially when we're doing Chicago. Oh Lord. That show just goes right over me.
SPEAKER_00Is in their own head space because if you're in anyone's way or like if you don't know your it's just like psycho crazy.
SPEAKER_04You gotta be honed in on what you're doing, or else you are you are gonna be miserable. But um, it was really sweet to get to hear from everyone. And like some of the questions that V had asked us was like, what is our biggest fear and our worst date stories?
SPEAKER_02I just love like listening to my friends talk. That's why I would go up to the mic like literally three times every single night because like I love listening to people talk, and so I'm like so like comfortable like in this space. I'm like, well, if I like listening to my friends talk, then they definitely want to hear me keep talking. So I would like go up and I'd be like, hey, it's me again, guy. I know y'all were sick of it. I loved it every single time.
SPEAKER_04Uh-huh. Oh, and overall, like performing in Germany was such a wonderful experience too. Like, I it was something that I feel like looking back now, I still haven't taken enough appreciation for because like the fact that we got to go to another country and perform in front of these German audiences who don't speak a lick of English. Well, actually, a lot of them do, to my surprise. We're just the dumb, stupid Americans normally speak one language. Like, uh, but like a lot of them did understand English, which was very impressive. But like all of our like show cue cards and the images in the back and stuff like that were in German and everything like that. Um and we like modified it in a way so that they could like understand it, but still the the main um way that we were able to communicate was through dance, which I think was also such a beautiful experience. And Riley and Allie said that they went out after one of our shows to like see Allie's parents that they come to the show, and they were just like the audience like erupted in the lobby. It was like applauding for them and cheering, and they wanted to take pictures, and they kept congratulating all of them, and it was just like their appreciation for the arts specifically, but dance in general, it was just it was so beautiful to see that. It really like it made all of the hard work we've put into these shows and the traveling and the moving around and the bus and truck life, it just it made it all so much worth it. But um, thank you guys so much for listening. It is so wonderful to be back. Don't go anywhere because we're gonna be here for a while. We've got some good stuff planned for you, so don't fret. That was kind of threatening. Don't go anywhere, stay where you are. And with that, and with that, thank you guys so much for watching. We'll see you next time.
SPEAKER_00Love you.
SPEAKER_04See you.
